Fahrenheit 9/11

My friend Cyrille from France is in town and wanted to see Michael Moore's new film today.

Being pretty familiar with news and whatnot, I knew that there was really no new information regarding Bush presented and I wondered if this movie really would have any impact on the election, as I've heard Moore claim.

I didn't think it would, until the movie started, that is. This is the sort of film that almost encourages the audience feedback, either with gasps at the revelation of yet another Bush-bin Laden financial link, or laughs at Bush stumbling over his native language.

Everyone in the theater seemed to be very affected by what was on screen. This movie demystifies and collects alot of the intricate and shady behind-the-scenes Bush administration connections that have been scattered throughout the media for the past few years and serves them up as entertaining, accesible and (for many) enraging segments.

With Moore overlapping exagerated dumbstruck Bush footage with snappy editing and music, this is a very entertaining movie. After the audience is presented with some moderately gruesome war footage and a black screen blasting the thundrous sounds of the WTC south tower being hit and screaming, panicing crowds, the face of George Bush no longer seems (as much of the media portrays) like the blank stare of a simpleton, but rather as an impressionable individual who's loyalty lies not with the American public, but with his tremenous Saudi financial interests.

This really does have potential to change the way many people see George Bush. And I'm assuming Fahrenheit 9/11 will come out on video in the fall, ensuring that the maximum number of people will see it before November.

If the rest of America reacts anything like the audience in the Regal theatre in Palm City, Florida did this afternoon, maybe Moore's election-swinging predictions aren't so far fetched.

Maine photos

Just got back in yesterday from a week and a half in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Way fun.

We stayed at the Lake Damariscotta cabin of my uncle and aunt Jeff and Liz, and visited their house on the ocean and travelled and stuff.

I've posted alot of the photos here, but I can't locate some of them. I'll have to keep looking. Just click on the Maine folder.

Sarah-Ginny and I spent a couple of days driving up the coast to Brooklin to see the home of WoodenBoat magazine and all of the other wooden boat builders in town.

Way fun. I'll have to write more later. Gotta go and pack, tomorrow morning we drive to Wilmington, NC for the wedding of Alex Silva and Rachel Wright.

Hiccups

Yesterday at lunch I started hiccupping. Last night I was still at it. My sister Brynne was over for dinner and suggested that I do the drinking-glass-from-the-other-side-thing.

So into the bathroom I went (didn't want to spill on the carpet) and curved my body into an unnatural position only to get a few drops into my mouth, up my sinuses and out my nose. That totally hurts.

I'd rather have hiccups.

So I tried holding as much air as I could in. Then I tried to breathe out as much as I could. Neither worked.

So I just went to bed hiccupping.

This morning they were gone!

And then they came back. So, at Sarah's insistence, I took a spoonful of sugar and it totally worked!

Dude.

Mere Minutes from Summer

I've been told that no one wants to read political junk on my blog, and to stick to day-in day-out fluff.

So this is the last day of work for me. Very stoked. The last day of school was Friday, graduation Friday night and now I'm minutes from Summer break.

Being a teacher is pretty nice.

I've already driven to Miami Inter Airport this morning, dropping off Brynne and Bo for their flight to Maine. Sarah-Ginny and I will follow on Saturday. We'll be spending about ten days in the Boothbay region.

Last weekend, Megan Roderick had Ari Montgomery in town. We went out sailing on Monkey Jungle. And then we went out again on Monday. I got a nice little sunburn.

I should really post pictures, but I haven't figured out how properly.

On a side note, check out our old friend Joe's website.
